2026-10-23 | The Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main has ruled in a legal dispute with the North Rhine Pharmacists’ Chamber that the cannabis platform Bloomwell may not advertise using rapper Sido (“Get Your Cannabis Prescription with Sido”) or promote “free prescriptions,” according to the Pharmazeutische Zeitung. The court dismissed the platform’s appeal and found that celebrity advertising for prescription cannabis flowers constituted a clear violation of the German Medicines Advertising Act (HWG) and the Act Against Unfair Competition (UWG). The offer was classified as an impermissible promotional campaign designed to boost sales of a bundled package. The court also rejected Bloomwell’s argument that the Pharmacists’ Chamber lacked standing to sue because medical prescriptions were involved. The Chamber’s right to pursue such competition law violations was beyond question.

German rapper Sido knows how to grab attention. He’s been doing it for decades. Now his name is part of another conversation, this time involving medical cannabis and advertising law. Through the Siggis PHARM brand, the Berlin artist has been connected to the growing German cannabis industry. But a marketing campaign by medical cannabis platform Bloomwell ended up in court.

Frankfurt’s Higher Regional Court upheld restrictions on the campaign. Bloomwell was prohibited from using the rapper’s celebrity appeal in the disputed advertising for prescription cannabis. Promises involving free prescriptions also fell foul of the rules. Germany’s regulations on advertising prescription medicines are strict, even when the celebrity involved comes from hip-hop. Importantly, the ruling targets the advertising methods. It does not ban Sido from making music or automatically shut down his cannabis business.

For international readers, this is a fascinating collision between two industries. Rappers have spent decades mentioning cannabis in their music. Today, some are building actual cannabis brands. But marketing medical products is a different game from promoting an album or launching a fashion label. A famous face can draw a crowd. In Germany, it cannot simply replace the rulebook.
