The German Hemp Association (DHV) has updated its organizational structure and transitioned from being a sole proprietorship to being a registered association. The restructuring is accompanied by the association adopting the new official name “DHV – Deutscher Hanfverband eV”.

“Since 2004, the German Hemp Association (DHV) has operated as a sole proprietorship, but the plan to establish a registered association had been in place for a long time. Now it’s finally happening: the sole proprietorship is becoming a registered association. This will make the hemp association more independent and future-proof.” the association wrote in a news release (translated from German to English).

“Furthermore, a registered association is the standard organizational form for a political advocacy group like the DHV. The new structure will therefore simplify the DHV’s political work in several areas and resolve previous confusion regarding its corporate structure.” the DHV continued.

The DHV represents the interests of cannabis consumers and legalization advocates across Germany. The association strives for a legal, consumer-friendly market for cannabis as a recreational drug – from production to sales in adult-only shops. The DHV seeks to end all forms of discrimination and fights for sensible regulations, including those concerning driver’s licenses, possession, consumption, home cultivation, growers’ associations, and medicinal use.

“The company structure, with its efficient processes, has been a crucial factor in the DHV’s success story to date. Therefore, we took care in the association’s statutes to avoid excessive bureaucracy and maintain lean structures.” states the DHV.

“With the same experienced team, we will continue to fight professionally, independently, and with full force for the complete legalization of cannabis.” the association wrote about its leadership. “At the founding meeting of the now-registered association, Georg Wurth was elected as the first chairman, and the previous managing director, Christian Müller, as his deputy. All current DHV employees will also transfer to the association.”

People who wish to support the association’s outstanding work can now do so as a “sponsor”. You can find the registration form at this link. Further information about the continuation of the DHV as an association can be found via their FAQs page on their website.
