€1 million worth of cannabis from Thailand found in storage at Athens airport

A €1 million consignment of marijuana from Thailand masquerading as clothing was seized at the Athens international airport in the late summer, authorities said Wednesday.

A police statement said 207 kilograms of the drug were found in cardboard boxes in temporary storage at the Eleftherios Venizelos airport in August. It was unclear why the seizure was announced more than two months later.

The statement said the marijuana had been loaded on a flight from Thailand and had a potential street value of €1 million, but gave no indication of who had organised the shipment and whom it was destined for.
