Which ad platforms will take a cannabis, hemp or CBD ad, what changes federally on 11 December 2026, and what every adult-use state requires before an ad can run. Every rule links to the platform’s own policy page or the state’s statute, regulation or regulator guidance.

Even better they tell us how they did their research and cite their work.

We read each ad platform’s own published policy pages on 29 October 2026 and classified five product types: state-legal THC cannabis, hemp-derived intoxicating THC, ingestible CBD, topical CBD and accessories. “Allowed” or “restricted” means the policy permits at least some ads in the US; “banned” means it prohibits them; grey means the policy doesn’t address the product or is ambiguous. Where a platform’s pages disagree, we report the reading its detailed policy text supports and flag the conflict: for Meta the stricter help-centre reading, for X the US section in the policy body.

For states, we include the 23 with licensed adult-use retail sales as of October 2026 and read each state’s statute, regulation or regulator guidance (via official sites or the Cornell LII, Justia and FindLaw mirrors of the official text). “Not specified” means the rules we reviewed don’t address the point, not that it’s allowed.

Federal dates come from the public laws on govinfo.gov and Congress.gov and the Federal Register. A few items rest on regulator guidance or a reputable law-firm summary because the primary text couldn’t be retrieved: Maine’s adult-use advertising rule, Nevada’s full statute (we used the regulator’s 2021 guidance), Illinois amendments after January 2025, New Jersey’s current section numbering, Spotify’s US policy page (we used its international page and 2023 trade-press reports) and the September 2026 rescheduling stay. Hemp law status was checked through 29 October 2026.

Not legal advice. This tracker summarises published advertising rules for marketers. It isn’t legal advice. Rules change, differ by license type and city, and are enforced differently; check the linked source or a cannabis attorney before you launch a campaign.
